Walls That Make Them Smile
A child's bedroom should be a space that sparks joy. Somewhere that feels like theirs. And one of the easiest ways to bring personality into a room is with bold, colourful wall art. No need for a complete redecoration. A few well-chosen prints can completely transform a space.
I design all the Black Cat Publications poster prints with this in mind. They are bright, playful and full of character. Whether your little one loves animals, monsters or disco cats, there is something to make their walls feel special.
Start with a Colour Palette
Before you start buying prints, think about the colours already in the room. What colour are the walls? The bedding? The curtains? You want your prints to complement what is there, not clash with it.
Our prints come in a range of colour palettes, so there is usually something that works. If the room is neutral, go bold with your prints. If the room already has strong colours, pick prints that echo those tones. A little cohesion goes a long way.
Gallery Walls Are Your Friend
You do not need one enormous canvas to make an impact. A cluster of smaller prints arranged together creates a gallery wall effect that looks brilliant and is easy to update as your child grows. Mix different sizes and orientations for a relaxed, organic feel.
Three prints in a row works beautifully above a bed or desk. Or try a grid of four matching prints for something more structured. The beauty of affordable poster prints is that you can experiment without breaking the bank.
Mix Characters and Themes
Do not feel you have to stick to one character or theme. Mixing prints adds visual interest and reflects your child's personality. A Ruggi print next to a jungle animal next to a disco cat? That works. Children's rooms should be fun, not a showroom.
That said, keeping a consistent illustration style ties things together. All our prints share the same bold, colourful aesthetic, so they look great together even when the subjects are completely different.
Frame It Up
A good frame makes a huge difference. You do not need to spend a fortune. Simple white, black or natural wood frames from the high street work perfectly. They give prints a polished, finished look and protect them from sticky fingers.
For a more relaxed vibe, washi tape or clipboards work well too. Especially in play areas where you might want to swap prints out more often.
Beyond the Bedroom
Our prints are not limited to children's bedrooms. They look brilliant in playrooms, nurseries, hallways and even kitchens. I have had customers frame them for home offices and living rooms too. Bold, colourful artwork brings energy to any space.
Make It Theirs
The best part about decorating a child's room is letting them have a say. Take them through the print options and let them choose their favourites. When children help pick their own decor, they feel ownership of their space. And a room that feels like theirs is a room they will love spending time in.
